Sometimes I really miss working in West Hollywood. Once there was Topz, a healthy burger joint I liked. Topz is gone, but now in that same location there's O! Burger, which I like even more.
It's brightly painted (in AFM lead-free, zero VOC Safecoat, mind you) in oranges and greens and aluminums. Everything here, and I mean everything, is organic, and as eco-friendly and biodegradable as possible. Nothing feels merely assembled.
The burgers are not much wider than a cup lid, but tall and mighty. The free-range turkey burger is solid and dripping, packed with honesty, and the housemade vegan burger is a vegetal Frankenstein monster of greens and yellows, hearty and flavorful rather than giving you the feeling of just cronsching sprouts with the bunnies.
For salads and sides we're still exploring the menu, but the fries are cleanly well-done. The vegan bean chili is smooth, not too spicy, and has guts.
To drink there's Kombucha and a selection of good iced green teas, but please, if you love me, get the vegan shake: oat milk (how do you milk an oat?), with a choice of aseel dates, banana, or chocolate, or all of the above like you're supposed to. The shake at first tastes marvelous anyway, but then has a conversation-worthy finish. (The wonderfully friendly owner Andy S. brought out a free sample of aseel date crushed into a paste to show us the contrast to typical dates: a sweet spackle, of a sandy texture yet almost creamy.)
Andy also brought us a pair of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, over which we immediately began mock-fighting. They're a knockout, dense with giant chips, more than a powdery crunch that happens to have chocolate inside.
Parking is on the streets (har har) or you can get validated in the Ramada parking structure in back.
